Syntorial keyboard shortcuts1/4/2024 I can't tell you exactly what the P6 modulation can be assigned to, but on the '08, I can achieve this in a few different ways. Hey man! I don't have a P6, but I do have a P'08, and when I want to go for a sound like the wobble, I start looking at the Modulation section of the synth. The lowpass filter cutoff, effects, and distortion are your friend. I realize I'm a bit of an idiot here who probably should have picked a less complicated unit as his first synth, and should probably log out of gearslutz and play with the keyboard and figure it out myself, but if you can help, thank you. Maybe set up a big fat reverb bus, and send the P6 into it? Sometimes that helps me with sound design. That's a good way to get to know your way around. Make a beat, record a bass line, then a pad, a lead, maybe some fx. When I get a new synth, I'll start making entire compositions with just that one synth. This is one you just need to know that it is, and focus on making music. I know you wanna know in less than 30 days if its a keeper. The Prophet has a delay which is a start, but there is an awful lot of processing that goes into those tape-y type sounds. The Prophet has sound quality in Spades, so it just needs some attention and care.Īlso, I don't think B of C sounds come from dry synth patches. You can tweak presets all day and learn nothing. It takes time to get to know it, learn to program it, know where the sweet spots are, and so on. I have NEVER had dramatic satisfaction immediately upon playing with a new synth. It doesn't have the mod-matrix craziness of the last couple of Prophets. Please post some examples of what you are after.Īgree with above.there is nothing wrong with the synth. However, if what you have in mind was actually done on an FM synth, or a rompler/sampler, you will NEVER get there with a P6. If done on an analog synth, the P6 will cover 99.5% of what you seem to be describing, and do it amazingly well, you just need to learn how to get there. Another way of saying this, first determine if the sounds you are after are done on a digital or analog synth. IMO you have made an excellent choice.Įxactly. A more complex synth is not the answer when you can barely handle the P6. You can hardly do better in the marketplace right now in terms of sound quality. You will find eventually that the P6 is not only a very capable instrument but a beautiful sounding one as well. Go back through the history of synth music and listen. You can become better by learning the one you have which, sounds great and is great, and by listening, reading, studying and practicing. You cannot become a better programmer by swapping synths. Should I return the P6 and get a different synth that you know for a fact would suit me better? Perhaps getting the softer sound i'm after is a matter of running it through effects? What is the parameter that brings about that "old tape" wobble effect? I want warm, earthy, gritty, dirty, imperfect sounds - not jabby, stabby, pristine and intense sounds. I'm making very laid back trip-hop-esque music here and would love to get off the computer and fall in love with this synth, which I am hoping can do the job. I am hoping for softer, more atmospheric, "musical" (?) sounds.and I'm particularly keen on dialing in some pitch wobble a la Boards of Canada (and I actually found this exact kind of sound in one of the presets but then forgot which one!). I find the presets in this lovely unit a bit harsh on the eardrums - kind of stabby and intense.probably good for trance music or other genres I find fatiguing to listen to. and not really getting closer to what I hear in my head, I would love some advice on how to b-line for some particular textures I'm after. I realize the sounds in these boards usually need to be edited in order to get what you want, but after playing around with the filters/oscillators etc. This is my first ever synth, so forgive my complete ignorance and noob-hood here. I picked up a Dave Smith Instruments ('Sequential') P6 and have 30 days to return it.
